This course provides an advanced examination of sport system development and management in international contexts, with an emphasis on theoretical frameworks, evidence-based analysis, and strategic consulting approaches. Through study of professional leagues, national sport organizations, and high-performance athlete development systems, students apply contemporary sport management theories to analyze sporting landscapes across different cultural and national contexts. The course integrates on-campus instruction, virtual engagement with Panamanian partners, and an immersive field experience in Panama during Spring Break. During the mid-semester visit to Panama, students conduct primary research through structured interviews with leaders from Pandeportes—the national sport governance body—and other sport industry professionals, systematic facility evaluations, and detailed organizational assessments. The course culminates in the presentation of comprehensive, research-based recommendations for enhancing the country’s sport system delivered to Panamanian sport leaders.
