About College-Level Programs

Welcome to the World

Florida State University’s International Programs offer an ideal combination of traditional and contemporary education—in Old World countries of Europe, in nations both ancient and emerging such as China and Russia, and in Central and South America’s rich and vibrant cultures. The world is truly your campus through Florida State University ’s International Programs.

Students from many American and international universities take part in FSU International Programs, or study in our host cities. You will become a world citizen, meeting and interacting with people from around the globe.

A National Reputation for Global Education

With 50 years of experience abroad, Florida State University is a national leader in international education—in program quality, longevity, and student enrollment. There are a variety of possibilities for international study. FSU owns or operates year-round study centers in London, England; Florence, Italy; Valencia, Spain; and Panama City, Republic of Panama. In addition, students may choose from other exceptional destinations from Costa Rica to Japan to France and many more. In each host country, the university and program directors have forged solid academic affi liations and sought out excellent sites and accommodations.

Academics: The Cultural Connection

The FSU approach to study abroad carefully coordinates academic and cultural programs. Program directors are FSU faculty who mold curriculum and plan singular adventures within countries they know inside and out. Each program features universityguided excursions to local sites and other locations to enhance course work. Every day students live and study in the midst of incomparable academic resources: art works, architecture, and museums and libraries, as well as institutions of government, commerce, and learning. They are taught by distinguished university faculty and guest scholars from FSU and the host country. They enjoy small classes and extraordinary research opportunities. They live within another culture and among students from throughout Florida, the nation, and the world. They return well prepared for careers or for graduate school.

Student Support: A Defining Difference

FSU stands apart from other universities in the personal support that staff and faculty commit to students. Every program begins with an orientation, and FSU personnel are always available as expert facilitators. Staff and faculty who know the country well help students in myriad ways: finding the nearest grocery or bank, getting health care, juggling essays and fi eld trips, riding buses in the city, or planning independent travel. Security is a paramount concern, and program fees always include full-time academic and administrative support and health insurance. We believe our direct involvement provides an easier transition for students. It builds a foundation for establishing their own levels of independence. In sum: FSU’s educational standards are high, and our student guidance and support are the foundation of our
programs.

About the FSU Study Centers

FSU’s study centers in London, Florence, Valencia, and Panama City operate year-round, allowing students to choose the term that best suits their academic schedules. The university’s decades long history in these locations means an unequaled advantage for students and their studies. These study centers also provide a home for a number of curriculum-focused programs.

The center directors and staff are residents of the host city. As community members, they are able to design impressive cultural programs and create fruitful bridges between course work and host-country professionals, institutions, and history. This support team assists students with everything from overcoming homesickness to dealing with emergencies to planning their weekend travel.

About the FSU Programs
Regardless of location, our programs have an unforgettable impact on students’ college and future careers. Apparel design in Europe’s fashion capitals, social work in multicultural cities, international law in global seats of power, theatre study where Shakespeare staged his plays: this is learning brought to life. Whether pursuing a broad course of study or focusing on a particular subject, each program includes field trips or overnight excursions chosen for specifi c elucidation of course work. Florida State professors have taken their students
to exclusive haute couture showings in Paris, to NATO Headquarters in Brussels, to the sets of British television productions, and to the Panama Canal.
