STUDY CENTER
Positioned behind the iconic Torres de Serranos, FSU Valencia is located in the heart of the city’s historic district. The study center brings history to life with exposed 10th century Moorish walls and glass floors that showcase 14th century leather tanning tanks. Modern comforts, including classrooms, a computer lab, study spaces, and administrative offices blend in seamlessly with the historic learning environment. A beautiful river-bed park is just steps away from the study center and the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences is within walking distance. 24/7 reception and swipe card access ensure student safety is the top priority.
HOUSING
Program housing is in shared apartments in the historic district of the city. Apartments are located either on the top floors of the study center or in nearby buildings. Amenities include fully-equipped kitchens, lounge space, cable TV, laundry facilities, weekly cleaning service with a change of bed linens and towels, and secure access to the study center’s library, computer lab, and study spaces. Meal vouchers that can be redeemed at restaurants across Spain are also provided.

The FSU Spain program starts in Madrid during the summer of 1997.
Dr. Robert L. Smith is the program director.
The FSU Spain program continues operating in Torremolinos during Fall and Spring and
in Madrid during the Summer.
The FSU Spain program visits Valencia for the first time in the summer during a
cultural trip and they fall in love with the city.
In May, the FSU Spain program permanently moves to Valencia.
The FSU Spain program begins to operate year-round in Valencia offering FSU students
the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Spanish language and culture.
After restructuring the program, local staff are incorporated to improve the immersion
process and Dr. Ignacio Messana is named Program Director.
FSU IP purchases its first building in the heart of the historical district of Valencia.
The program starts receiving participants of the First Year Abroad Program.
After integral renovations, the Garnet Study Center and apartment building is inaugurated by
IP Director, Dr. Jim Pitts, and President T.K. Wetherell in the Summer of 2007.
The Garnet Study Center receives its first students in Fall 2007.
FSU IP purchases a second study center and apartment building.
In May 2014, after renovations, the Gold Study Center building is inaugurated by Dr. Jim Pitts
and US Ambassador to Spain, James Costos. The Gold Study Center receives its first
students in Summer 2014.
FSU Valencia celebrates 20 years of the FSU Spain program with alumni, faculty, and staff.
FSU Valencia celebrates its 25th Anniversary with around 15,000 students and faculty that have
taught and studied abroad with FSU International Programs in Spain.
