Editing, Writing, & Media
Florence, Italy | Summer
Hone your skills in editing, writing, and media through the immersive study of topics ranging from the masterworks of Renaissance artists to the pizza recipes of artisan chefs. Write about the pleasures of Italian cuisine, the intricacies of historic book restoration, and the secrets of Florence street life — all experienced through immersive experiences in the historic city. At the end of the program your writings are compiled into the student magazine FLOR, giving you a hands-on opportunity to build your portfolio in writing and editorial work. Capture the experience of living and studying in Italy through your writings. If your major is editing, writing, and media you can complete a substantial portion of the major requirements on this program.
Eligibility
This program is open to all interested undergraduate students but may be of particular interest to English majors.
Pursuant to Italian legal requirements, students must be at least 18 years of age by the start of the program. Contact IP-Info@fsu.edu for more information.
Other Considerations & Requirements
Priority is given to students in good conduct standing with a GPA of 2.5 or higher; exceptions may be granted upon appeal. There may be some coursework before the start of the program.
Note: Do not purchase airline tickets until advised to do so in the IP portal.

FSU Florence Study Center
Located in the heart of the city, the study center is housed in a renovated 16th century Renaissance palazzo. Learn in classrooms, the culinary kitchen, fashion lab, and library. With lounge areas, outdoor patios, and a cafe, there's plenty of space to relax in between classes. The central location makes the study center the perfect hub for immersing yourself in the rich culture and history of the city.
Housing
You'll live in shared Florentine-style residences within a 25-minute walk of FSU Florence. Each residence is unique but typically includes double or triple occupancy bedrooms with access to a shared living area, kitchen, and washing machines. Housing includes Wi-Fi and a regular cleaning service with a change of bed linens and towels.

Academics
On this program, you'll study a focused curriculum with an FSU faculty member. You’ll have the opportunity to use the city as your classroom through immersive academic experiences.
Excursions & Activities
You'll receive a program calendar before you leave; here are some examples taken from past programs of potential excursions & activities you may do:
Overnight trip: Venice, Naples, Pompeii, Rimini & San Marino, or Adriatic Coast
Academic & other local experiences: Marble paper making workshop, Il Torchio bookmaking class, San Marco Museum, Bibiloteca Nazionale, Pitti Palace, the Boboli Gardens, Palazzo Medici Riccardi, the Uffizi Gallery, archaeological sites and historic churches, and visits to a gelateria, pasticceria, and pizzeria
Class visits: Tour with a local journalist, traditional Italian food cooking class with local chef & writer, study center special collections tour, magazine review over dinner, guest speakers in PR, press communication, fashion styling, and editing
