Made in Italy: Fashion & Sustainability

Florence provides the ideal learning environment to study fashion with its historic contributions to the industry. Discover the influence of heritage and innovation on entrepreneurship, fashion, health, and wellness through immersive learning experiences. Explore the importance of environmental protection and social responsibility in developing products for global markets. Learn how the fashion industry can contribute to overall wellbeing through sustainable, ethical, intelligent, healing, and inclusive clothing in a country that is consistently one of the healthiest in the world. Uncover new and positive ways to combat globalization's fast fashion, which negatively impacts the environment. Experiential learning in Florence and other Italian cities will expose you to Italy's various entrepreneurial landscapes.
Eligibility
This program is open to all interested undergraduate and graduate students.
Pursuant to Italian legal requirements, students must be at least 18 years of age by the start of the program. Contact IP-Info@fsu.edu for more information.
Other Considerations & Requirements
Priority is given to students in good conduct standing with a GPA of 2.5 or higher; exceptions may be granted upon appeal.
Note: Do not purchase airline tickets until advised to do so in the IP portal.

FSU Florence Study Center
Located in the heart of the city, the study center is housed in a renovated 16th century Renaissance palazzo. Learn in classrooms, the culinary kitchen, fashion lab, and library. With lounge areas, outdoor patios, and a cafe, there's plenty of space to relax in between classes. The central location makes the study center the perfect hub for immersing yourself in the rich culture and history of the city.
Housing
You'll live in shared Florentine-style residences within a 25-minute walk of FSU Florence. Each residence is unique but typically includes double or triple occupancy bedrooms with access to a shared living area, kitchen, and washing machines. Housing includes Wi-Fi and a regular cleaning service with a change of bed linens and towels.
Note: Overnight guests are not allowed in program housing.

Academics
On this program, you'll study a focused curriculum with an FSU faculty member. You’ll have the opportunity to use the city as your classroom through immersive academic experiences.
Excursions & Activities
You'll receive a program calendar before you leave; here are some examples taken from past programs of potential excursions & activities you may do:
Overnight trip: Venice, Naples, Pompeii, Rimini & San Marino, or Adriatic Coast
Day trips: Milan (including fashion exhibit & fashion boutiques tour), Prato (including Textile Museum, Brachi Testing Services), and Scandicci (including ZeroLab workshop)
Academic & other local experiences: Pitti Palace & Boboli Gardens, Ferragamo Museum
Class visits: Workshops (including macrame, rescued leather making & painting, feathers), tours (including artisans & sustainability tour and vintage & thrift shop tour), Fondazione Lisio Silk Factory, fashion colloquium with guest speakers, and Sneex visit & lecture
