Your wellbeing is our top priority.

Throughout your entire study abroad experience your welfare and safety is FSU’s top priority. FSU International Programs has been sending students abroad for over 65 years and continues to stay up-to-date on best practices and industry standards of safety.

Our overseas program staff maintain close contact with our Tallahassee office and other main campus departments, as well as trusted local, national, and international security resources.

Pre-departure and on-site orientations detail safety procedures and what life is like abroad to prepare you for your experience. Each program has an emergency plan detailing local health care facilities and emergency meeting points, and other contingency plans.

While abroad, students are required to report independent travel via the IP online travel form so our staff can provide appropriate support in the event of an emergency. FSU IP is fully committed to helping you achieve your study abroad dreams while maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for you.

Insurance

Health Insurance

When you study abroad with FSU, your program fee includes international medical and evacuation insurance coverage through IP’s contracted insurance and assistance providers. A link to the policy is provided below. The coverage will be effective for participants from the day the program starts until the day the program ends.

Note: This international policy is NOT intended to replace your domestic health insurance coverage that FSU expects you to purchase or maintain. For more information about FSU’s domestic insurance options and requirements, visit the FSU Student Insurance website

Travel Insurance Information

FSU International Programs encourages you to consider purchasing personal travel or trip insurance. Travel insurance comes in many forms and can provide financial protection in case you need to cancel your participation or substantially change your travel plans due to unforeseen circumstances. Depending on the policy, coverage may include reimbursement for lost baggage, travel delays, flight disruptions, and trip cancellations. Travel insurance is not medical insurance, which is already included in your program fee.

HUB Global Solutions offers the SquareMouth platform, which allows travelers to search, compare, and purchase travel insurance plans. These plans are separate from FSU International Programs' insurance coverage and are not endorsed by FSU or FSU International Programs. For more information on purchasing insurance for personal days or other optional services, visit HUB Global Solutions Options for Personal Travel and Optional Services.

You also have the option to research travel insurance and trip cancellation policies by using the Travel Insurance Review website. The Travel Insurance 101: The Complete Guide to Travel Insurance section is particularly helpful for those just beginning their research. There is also a section that allows you to compare different policies

University Policies & Resources

While studying abroad is a unique and exciting experience, students remain representatives of Florida State University and are expected to uphold the same standards of conduct as they would on campus. All program participants are subject to FSU policies, rules, and procedures, including those outlined in the FSU Student Handbook and Student Conduct Code, which remain in effect throughout the duration of the program, regardless of location.

Title IX policies and reporting requirements apply to all FSU IP study abroad programs and must be adhered to by all students and staff. FSU IP faculty and staff are considered mandatory reporters and are legally obligated to report incidents of sex-based discrimination and sexual misconduct. For more information, please visit FSU kNOwMORE.

We encourage students to familiarize themselves with these policies before departure. Maintaining respectful, responsible behavior helps ensure a safe and positive experience for all participants and reflects the values of the FSU community worldwide.

Clery Act

In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (the “Clery Act”), Florida State University must provide annual notice to the campus community regarding the availability of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report. The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is available and can be viewed on the Florida State University Police Department’s Clery Act & Crime Reporting webpage.

The report includes important information regarding policies on campus safety and related issues, such as crime reporting, emergency procedures and notifications, alcohol and drug use, weapons, sexual violence and relationship violence, fire safety in on-campus student housing facilities, and other safety and security topics. The report also includes crime statistics for the previous three calendar years, which have occurred on or within the university’s Clery geography, and fire statistics for the previous three calendar years covering fires occurring in on-campus student housing facilities.
