International Internship
Valencia, Spain | Summer
Gain international work experience in the historic district of Valencia where FSU Valencia is located or throughout other areas of the vibrant city. History meets the modern world in Valencia making it the perfect setting to gain skills in a variety of areas — from Spanish language to learning first-hand how trade and shipping work in a major Mediterranean port city. Gain career skills and make international connects when you intern in Valencia.
Eligibility
This program is open to all degree-seeking undergraduate FSU students who have been accepted into an upper-division major at the time of application. You must have a 3.0 minimum FSU GPA. You must have intermediate Spanish competency as demonstrated by one or more of the following:
- Enrolled in SPN 2240 or equivalent
- Completed SPN 2240 or equivalent
- Test to level of SPN 2240 on Modern Languages’ placement test
- Advanced competency as determined by interview
Other Considerations & Requirements
Internships are part-time; you will take 6 credit hours of in-person classes at FSU Valencia while also interning up to 20 hours per week, earning another 6 credit hours of internship credit. All internships are unpaid.
Note: Do not purchase airline tickets until advised to do so in the IP portal.
Pre-Application Required Meeting
You must first meet with International Programs' internship advisor before you can apply. You can join Zoom drop-in advising hours on Mondays & Tuesdays from 10am-12pm, and Thursdays from 1pm-3pm. Or, you can book an appointment for another time via Campus Connect. Alternatively, you can reach out directly by emailing IP-Intern@fsu.edu to make an appointment.

Application Requirements
After you have met with the internship advisor, you will be given a link to apply. Once you have completed the application and your application fee is processed, you will receive an email with access to the IP portal.
In the IP portal you must submit the following documents:
- Internship request form
- Resume (three copies: one that has been critiqued by the FSU Career Center, one final copy, and one final copy that has been translated into Spanish)
- One letter of recommendation and the recommendation form.
- Note: Recommendation letters must be on official letterhead and must be emailed by the recommender to IP-Intern@fsu.edu.
Placement Process & Internship Field Areas
The internship placement process will begin after the commitment fee deadline with a virtual meeting with FSU Valencia staff. Following this meeting, Valencia staff work to secure an interview for you. You will then have an interview with the company or organization. Specific placements cannot be guaranteed, are subject to availability, and may require specific skills or previous experience. If a placement is not identified within 30 days of the start of your program, you will have the option to switch to the broad curriculum program in your internship location or to receive a refund of program fees (not including the application fee).
Internship opportunities can include, but are not limited to the following placement/field areas:
Health; Hospitality; Psychology; Sports Management
Other areas not listed may be considered after consultation with the Valencia staff.

FSU Valencia Study Center
Positioned behind the iconic Serrano Towers as pictured here, the FSU Valencia study center is located in the heart of the city’s historic district. The building brings history to life with exposed 10th century Moorish walls and glass floors that showcase 14th century leather tanning tanks. Modern comforts including classrooms, a computer lab, study spaces, and administrative offices blend in seamlessly with the historic features, creating a remarkable learning environment.
Housing
Program housing is in shared apartments in the historic district of the city. Apartments are located either on the top floors of the study center or in nearby buildings. Each apartment includes a fully-equipped kitchen, shared bathroom, and a furnished living area. Wi-Fi and a regular cleaning service with a change of bed linens and towels is included. You'll also have access to laundry facilities.
Note: Overnight guests are not allowed in program housing.

Academics
On this program, you will intern up to 20 hours per week, earning 6 credit hours of internship or Directed Individual Study (DIS) credit. You will additionally take 6 credit hours of in-person broad curriculum classes at FSU Valencia.
Note: Interns will select one course from the VA01 session and one course from the VA02 session.
