Florence Fall Internship
Florence, Italy | Fall

Gain international work experience while enjoying one of the most beautiful cities in the world. FSU Florence offers internships in a variety of fields. Past interns have worked at a variety of places from prestigious art museums and galleries to marketing and communication firms. Whatever your placement, you'll be immersed in the unique culture of Florence. You'll gain practical work experience, make valuable connections, and expand your network with international contacts for future employment references.

Application

Eligibility
This program is open to all degree-seeking undergraduate FSU students who have been accepted into an upper-division major at the time of application. You must have a 3.0 minimum FSU GPA and have passed ITA 1121 Elementary Italian II with a "B" or better.

Other Considerations & Requirements
Internships are part-time; you will take 6 credit hours of in-person classes at FSU Florence while also interning up to 20 hours per week, earning another 6 credit hours of internship credit. All internships are unpaid.

Note: Do not purchase airline tickets until advised to do so in the IP portal.

Pre-Application Required Meeting
You must first meet with International Programs' internship advisor before you can apply. You can join Zoom drop-in advising hours on Mondays & Tuesdays from 10am-12pm, and Thursdays from 1pm-3pm. Or, you can book an appointment for another time via Campus Connect. Alternatively, you can reach out directly by emailing IP-Intern@fsu.edu to make an appointment.

Application Requirements
After you have met with the internship advisor, you will be given a link to apply. Once you have completed the application and your application fee is processed, you will receive an email with access to the IP portal.

In the IP portal you must submit the following documents:

  • Internship request form
  • Resume (two copies: one that has been critiqued by the FSU Career Center and one final copy)
  • One letter of recommendation and the recommendation form.
    • Note: Recommendation letters must be on official letterhead and must be emailed by the recommender to IP-Intern@fsu.edu.

Placement Process & Internship Field Areas

The internship placement process will begin after the commitment fee deadline with a virtual meeting with FSU Florence staff. Following this meeting, Florence staff work to secure an interview for you. You will then have an interview with the company or organization. Specific placements cannot be guaranteed, are subject to availability, and may require specific skills or previous experience. If a placement is not identified within 30 days of the start of your program, you will have the option to switch to the broad curriculum program in your internship location or to receive a refund of program fees (not including the application fee).

Internship opportunities can include, but are not limited to the following placement/field areas:

Advertising; Architecture; Art History; Artisanal Workshops; Communications; Fashion; International Affairs; Merchandising; Hospitality; Journalism; Marketing; Museum Studies; Political Science; Retail Marketing; Tourism

Other areas not listed may be considered after consultation with the Florence staff.

FSU Florence Study Center

FSU Florence Study Center

Located in the heart of the city, the study center is housed in a renovated 16th century Renaissance palazzo. Learn in classrooms, the culinary kitchen, fashion lab, and library. With lounge areas, outdoor patios, and a cafe, there's plenty of space to relax in between classes. The central location makes the study center the perfect hub for immersing yourself in the rich culture and history of the city.

Housing

You'll live in shared Florentine-style residences within a 25-minute walk of FSU Florence. Each residence is unique but typically includes double or triple occupancy bedrooms with access to a shared living area, kitchen, and washing machines. Housing includes Wi-Fi and a regular cleaning service with a change of bed linens and towels.

Note: Overnight guests are not allowed in program housing.

Excursions & Activities

You'll receive a program calendar before you leave; here are some examples taken from past programs of potential excursions & activities you may do, dependent on the alignment of your work hours/schedule with program activities:

Overnight trips (two trips): Milan & Lake Como, Verona & Lake Garda, and/or Turin & surrounding region

Academic & other local experiences: The Duomo and Baptistery, Accademia, the Bargello Museum, the Uffizi Gallery, Palazzo Vecchio, and/or other historic sites

Extracurricular activities: Cooking, ceramics, paper, and/or leather goods workshops, student clubs, volunteer opportunities, opera and/or ballet, and/or sports activities including volleyball, basketball, student soccer tournament, and/or watching professional soccer games

Finances

Study abroad is an investment in your future, but we believe the world is within your reach. When you study abroad with FSU, you pay an application fee and a program fee. The program fee is split into multiple payments. Most financial aid options can apply towards your program fee and payment deferment options are available.
