Intro to Documentary Filmmaking

Experience the vibrant film scene of London, the birthplace of the documentary tradition. Documentary film and video has experienced an explosion of new and exciting work in recent years which you'll explore through various class excursions around London. Coursework connects the vibrant world of contemporary documentary film with the historical roots of the tradition. Learn through film viewings, master classes with filmmakers, and hands-on training in the fundamentals of digital video production. Create short documentaries during your time abroad.
Eligibility
This program is open to all interested undergraduate students. No prior experience in film making is required.
Other Considerations & Requirements
Priority is given to students in good conduct standing with a GPA of 2.5 or higher; exceptions may be granted upon appeal.

FSU London Study Center
Housed in a historic 17th century row of townhouses, the FSU London study center is located in the heart of central London's Bloomsbury district. The FSU London study center has a computer lab, library, admin offices, a student lounge, and more. Centrally located, the study center is the perfect hub for exploring all London has to offer.
Housing
Housing is flat (or apartment) style and is located either in the study center or in comparable accommodations in central London. Each flat includes a fully-equipped kitchen, shared bathroom, and a furnished living area. Wi-Fi and a regular cleaning service with a change of bed linens and towels is included. You'll also have access to laundry facilities.
Note: Overnight guests are not allowed in program housing.

Academics
On this program, you'll study a focused curriculum with an FSU faculty member. You’ll have the opportunity to use the city as your classroom through immersive academic experiences.
Excursions & Activities
You'll receive a program calendar before you leave; here are some examples taken from past programs of potential excursions & activities you may do:
Overnight trip: Bath & Stonehenge, the Lake District, Yorkshire, or Cornwall
Day trips: Hampton Court Palace, Cambridge, Oxford, Brighton, Blenheim Palace, and/or Windsor Castle
Academic & other local experiences: Film screenings & curated viewings throughout London, visits to museums exploring film, media, and cultural history, learning hands-on production skills in iconic London filming locations, guest speakers & industry insights from film professionals, and visits to other historic & cultural sites
Extracurricular activities: Walking tours, movie nights, sports watch parties, and/or afternoon tea
