Course Description

This course uses basic social and political science concepts and principles to provide an introductory survey of government institutions and current political parties throughout the world, as well as theories that explain similarities and differences among countries. Students will be equipped to understand alternative electoral systems, parliamentary systems, the causes of political change, democratization, political culture, ideologies, and the development of economic and social policy. The course introduces examples from western democracies and developing countries.
