This course provides an overview of the systematics, morphology, ecology, behavior, physiology, and life history of the most diverse group of vertebrates on Earth, the fishes.
Taking advantage of London’s prestigious science museums, students will discover the historical and current importance of these collections to our understanding of the diversity of fishes and will practice relating fish morphology to ecology, behavior, and physiology. Together we will explore Billingsgate Market, where Londoners have been buying their seafood for more than 1000 years, and will consider the life history, conservation and management of the fishes available for purchase there. We’ll also dive into some local fish research through primary literature discussion.
