The following are the course offerings at the Theatre Academy in London for 2009.

Each semester offers a particular focus. Students may select courses according to this suggested focus or according to individual preferences.

Students may also take a Directed Individual Study by appointment. All courses are available for major credit upon application to the student's home department.

Spring - Dramatic Writing Semester

Introduction to London Theatre THE 3061 (mandatory)
A theatre-going course introducing students to current dramaturgy and stagecraft in London and including guest lectures and masterclasses given by actors, writers and directors working in London.

Fundamentals of Playwriting TPP 4600
A craft-based, practical exploration of the art of playwriting, this class functions as a workshop and will focus on the mechanics of structure, form and marketing.
Adaptation THE 4935
A course examining the special skills a writer needs to adapt stories from novels and other narrative forms for theatre, film and television. Students will adapt a novel of their choice.
Screenwriting THE4935
A practical guide to writing screenplays for film and television, including developing ideas, story structure, character, visual style, and dialogue.
Ethnic Theatre in London (THE 4733 Gender, Race and Performance)
Introduction to contemporary theories/practices of the representations of race/gender and London's diverse communities on London stages.
Shakespeare THE 3931
An Introduction to performing Shakespeare and the basics of verse-speaking.
Directing 1 TPP 4310
A basic techniques course with emphasis on script analysis, fundamentals of staging and work with actors.
