London Museum Studies
England: London
At Westminster Abbey, you walk in the footsteps of kings and the literati of the English language.
At the Tower of London you pass by the crown jewels as well as the execution place of the 17 year-old
martyred queen of nine days, Lady Jane Grey. Both the Abbey and the Tower are United Nations Global
Heritage sites as is Stonehenge on Salisbury Plain and the Roman town of Bath, both day-trips from
the city. London museums and cultural sites hold the treasures of the world in art, natural history,
science, medicine and humanity. There are hundreds of museums and cultural sites open to the public
and “Museums and National Heritage Sites of London” highlights their rich collections, placing them
in both the historical and contemporary contexts of the museum profession. Students may use the
course(s) in this program as part of the requirements for the Museum Studies Graduate Certificate
or the Museum Studies minor in Art History. During the regular spring semester on the FSU home campus,
students attend classes that cover the philosophy and best practices of global museums; then, during
Spring Break, the course is enlivened by a week of exciting field work at museums and heritage sites
in London.
