This new program is designed to provide students with real work experience in Florence. The Florida State University first opened its doors in Florence in 1966, the year of the Great Flood. To honor the students for their help in saving important works of art damaged by the flood, the Florida State Florence program was given a key to the city. This initial union between Florida State and Florence created a special relationship that has grown stronger over the years. As a result, we are able to provide outstanding learning opportunities in one of the world's most important cultural and historical treasures.
Placements are made on a case-by-case basis and potentially can be found in a large variety of fields. Past interns have been placed in positions with prestigious art museums and galleries. Additionally, Florida State has contacts with art restoration specialists and world class hotels and restaurants. All of these opportunities immerse students in the unique culture of Florence. This experience and exposure will raise awareness of, and potentially provide entrée to, a variety of career opportunities. Our interns gain unparalleled practical work experience, make invaluable connections, and acquire exceptional employment references.
