Program Information - Classical Latin Studies

Custom-designed for qualified high school Latin students, this program begins in the spring and concludes with a tour in the summer through Italy followed by a Greek cruise.  This innovative educational program offers SIX semester hours of college credit (HUM 2210, CLA 2123) and allows students to learn while having the time of their lives!

HOW IT WORKS!

Step One

Enrollment begins in the fall, and starting in January, students will have a combination of web-based instruction, internet research, as well as some face-to-face evening orientation classes for students in the local area.  For out-of-area students, all orientation information will be available on the website or by personal contact with the director and/or program leader.

Must have Internet Access
Must have Microsoft Word
[Upon acceptance, participants will be given appropriate information, instructions and FSU student ID number to access website.]

Step Two

From June 13 – July 6, 2010 students travel throughout Italy and Greece seeing and experiencing what they have just studied.  Paintings, sculpture, monuments, historical sites and classical antiquities come to life before their eyes as they experience ancient Roman, Etruscan and Greek artifacts and settlements first hand.  It is also a chance for students to learn some important Latin and Greek vocabulary, to interact with ancient and modern cultures, and to form some special friendships with classmates who will be their traveling companions.  This unique educational travel experience will add to all that they have previously learned, making history truly come alive!
