INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS AND MARKETING
Students will learn international business and marketing in both South Korea and Japan. The first three weeks of the program will take place in South Korea, “Land of the Morning Calm,” blending 5,000 years of history with today’s modern technology and corporations, including Samsung, LG, SK, Daewoo, and Hyundai. During this part of the program, students will discover Korea’s unique and dynamic cultural and business settings.
Excursions may include the national folk village; historically significant
sites such as Changduk Palace; cultural and business districts of Seoul, the nation’s capital; and selected world class multinational businesses. This program is based at Sookmyung Women’s University, an FSU sister school in the heart of Seoul, offering exceptional exposure to Asian culture.
The second three weeks take place in Japan, “Land of the Rising Sun,” where business dominates the horizon while illuminating global
economics, business, and marketing. Students will explore marketing of goods and services both intra-nationally and across borders. Topics to be covered include international market-entry strategies and the general
foundation of international strategy in the context of Japanese and Asian business. Based at Nihon University in Tokyo, a top business school in Japan, students have the opportunity to interact with Japanese students from that campus. Dynamic classroom lectures will be enhanced by
excursions in and around Tokyo which may include day trips to Kamakura, the ancient capital of Japan, as well as the mountain district near Mount Fuji, Japan’s tallest mountain. The group will also visit sites in Tokyo to learn about Japanese business, such as the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the Bank of Japan. Note: The trip to the mountain district near Mount Fuji
involves an overnight stay and significant travel outside of Tokyo, entailing an additional cost of approximately $80.
Eligibility
This program has been developed for business majors and economics majors. Other related majors may be considered if course prerequisites are met. No knowledge of Japanese or Korean is required.
Housing
During their stay in Korea, students are housed in shared accommodation at Sookmyung Women’s University. While in Japan, students stay in dormitory-style facilities and commute to the FSU study facility at Nihon University via the Tokyo subway.
