Italy • Florence

There are few cities in the world as enchanting as Florence. This cradle of the Renaissance gives students the truly unique opportunity to study in a city that emanates history, culture and art and is home to monumental museums, palaces and churches. The city of Florence offers students the opportunity to see world class operas, concerts, art exhibits and festivals that normally can be seen only in a big city, all while holding on to its quaint, italian charm. The city is the students' classroom and its rich history and culture are brought to life as students study first hand the works of masters who shaped Western culture, such as Dante, Leonardo da Vinci, Lorenzo de Medici, Galileo and Michelangelo.

The Study Center, located in the 15th-century Alessandri Palace, is just a short stroll from the marbled Duomo, the Ponte Vecchio, and the world renowned Uffizi gallery. In the midst of all this history, the Center's impressive facilities are equipped with modern comforts and technology. Students and faculty also use the Center as a gathering place for study groups and social activities.

Broad Curriculum Program
The Broad Curriculum program gives students the opportunity to earn credits in general requirements and elective courses while living in Florence, as well as having the opportunity to discover other cities and regions of Italy.

Internships
This program was originally created for Art History majors, and places highly motivated students in professional positions with prestigious museums, galleries, and art restoration specialists. The program has been expanded to include placements in many different fields.

First Year Abroad Program
The Florence Study Center is one of our European locations which is ideal for our First Year Abroad students. Course offerings allow most majors to progress academically while having a unique freshman experience abroad.

Archaeology in Tuscany
Students in the program are taught skills in archaeological excavation and processing of artifacts with instruction appropriate to the amount of experience they have had, from beginners to advanced.

Italian Studies Minor
The Italian Studies Florence Center Minor enhances and focuses the student’s program in Italy. The minor is built around Florence residency, but can be pursued before and after it as well: 15 credits are required, 9 of which must be earned in Florence. Students may choose from various disciplines in Italian Studies. Consult the Florida State University Bulletin (registrar.fsu.edu/bulletin) and/or contact International Programs for formal declaration of the minor.
