General Information
  • Requirements, availability of aid or scholarships, and procedures for obtaining such funds differ between FSU and Non-FSU students (i.e. transient students).
  • Make sure that you are following the appropriate guidelines based on your status as either an FSU student or a non-FSU student.
  • All financial aid recipients are expected to enroll as fulltime students and to complete sufficient academic units each semester in order to graduate in the normal period for the degree being sought. This means undergraduate and graduate students should be registered for an average of at least 12 credit hours per term. Note: FSU degree-seeking students expecting to receive summer financial aid must be enrolled for a minimum of six credits.

Use of Financial Aid

FSU degree-seeking Students may qualify for financial aid by completing a financial aid application [Free Application for Student Financial Aid (FAFSA)] with the FSU Office of Financial Aid. Contact the FSU Office of Financial Aid for details: http://www.finaid.fsu.edu/.   In addition to the FASFA, FSU degree-seeking summer program participants must also submit an FSU Summer financial aid application. All scholarship awards must be reported to the Office of Financial Aid. Go to www.campus.fsu.edu and report scholarships through the student financial aid tool kit.

Non-FSU students may qualify to receive financial aid, but students must contact their home school’s financial aid office to learn how your school deals with the awarding and disbursement process. In most cases, at the student’s request, your home school will initiate a Consortium Agreement with FSU to allow awarding and disbursement of financial aid.

The Consortium Agreement
The Consortium Agreement allows your home school to award financial aid even though you are registered for classes to study abroad with FSU International Programs. The consortium agreement must be signed by both the home school financial aid office and the host school (FSU) financial aid office. Your home school financial aid office must send this agreement to the FSU Office of Financial Aid via fax (850.644.6404), attention: Financial Aid Special Programs Coordinator, or by mail, attention: Financial Aid Study Abroad Coordinator, FSU, A4400 UCA, Tallahassee, FL 32306-2430. Your home school financial aid office may require of the International Programs Office written proof of acceptance to our Program and verification of your enrollment. You must notify us, in writing, of anything your home school may require of this office in order for them to process your financial aid.

Possibility for Increased Aid
Certain types of aid may be increased for students who are admitted into one of our programs. PLUS and Alternative loans may be increased, but campus-based aid (FSAG, FSUG, Pell, SEOG) and scholarship awards generally remain the same.  In general, grant money and Bright Futures Scholarship funds are NOT available during a summer term.  If your financial aid was calculated prior to your acceptance to our Program, you should inform your school’s Office of Financial Aid and request your present award be revised, if possible.

Estimated financial aid loan amounts for International Programs students
As of fall 2008, according to federal guidelines, based on degree-seeking status at FSU and for those students that have a FAFSA on file and who would be eligible (i.e. meet citizenship requirements, are not in default [on repayment] or over aggregate [have already borrowed maximum limit]):   **To ensure loan regulations and limit amounts have not changed consult with the Office of Financial Aid www.finaid.fsu.edu or your home school if you are not degree-seeking at FSU.
