Visa Information for FSU IP Participants
Travel Visas
Currently student visas are required for U.S. citizens in Australia, China, Italy, Republic of Panama, Spain, and Russia. Students participating in the First Year Abroad program may have different visa requirements. Please refer to specific information about travel visas for this program. Students are responsible for completing the necessary steps to obtain a visa in a timely manner, and may be responsible for associated costs. Contact the International Programs (IP) office or click on the “Visa Packets” button on the right for country-specific details.
U.S. citizens requiring visas will receive guidelines and assistance from International Programs. Students not holding U.S. passports, or U.S. citizens living abroad, must contact the appropriate consulate for the steps to obtain necessary visas. International Programs does not take responsibility for obtaining special visitor or student visas for non-U.S. citizens or U.S. citizens living abroad. Visit the State Department website for specific visa requirements by country. Additional immigration information can be found by clicking on the “General Immigration” button on the right.
Visa application processes and requirements are constantly changing, and vary greatly from location to location. Failure to complete the visa application process within the stated timeline will possibly result in late arrivals or inability to participate in the program. Any financial penalties associated with delayed arrivals or cancellations will be the responsibility of the student. Students are strongly encouraged to purchase travel insurance when they purchase their flights. For more information click on the “Travel Insurance” button on the right.
Students may be required to make a personal appearance at the appropriate consulate to obtain a visa. Those in multiple programs may have different visa requirements and should contact IP for more information. If additional travel is planned before or after the program dates, students are responsible for making their own entry arrangements. IP cannot guarantee receipt of an entry visa.
General Immigration Information
Some FSU students may choose programs other than an FSU International Program. As a general rule, these students should get their visa information and support from the organization providing the program, whether another university or a ‘third party provider’. However, much of the information provided in this section of our website will be helpful to students going on any program. Please note, immigration requirements vary greatly by location, purpose of visit and duration of stay. Please refer to the buttons to the right, linking to helpful resources.
